The Katatonics

Katatonics are an American 3-piece Instrumental Rock group from Bloomington, IN. Founded in 2013 with Chris Hack (Guitar) and Justin Meier (Upright Bass), they created their own spin on the crossroads of Surf and Rockabilly. Joined by Danny McKinley (Drums) and Mike Morgan (Guitar) not long after, the group put out their first EP 7" Swamp Terror, along with SLAPBASSSURF! on cassette tape with Cassetteland Records. The second album Operation Neptune, came shortly after. Featuring another round of Surf Rock inspired tunes. Several of these tracks were re-released on a split cassette tape with The Enstrangers out of Lafayette, IN. The group has toured around the mid-west and even out to the east coast to play Otto's Shrunken Head in Manhattan, performing with acts such as Messer Chups from Russia and Midwest surf legends The Madeira .As of 2022, the group, now Mike Morgan (Bass), Chris Hack (Guitar) and Danny McKinley (Drums), just released a new EP, On Toure From Canada, which is inspired by the instrumental tracks from groups like The Sadies and Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet. They are now working on recording and releasing a full length LP and continuing to play shows throughout the mid-west.
